        1987లో స్థాపించబడిన ప్రభుత్వ డిగ్రీ కళాశాల- ఎలమంచిలి స్థాపిత విభాగాలలో తెలుగు విభాగం ఒకటి. అనంతరం తెలుగు సాహిత్యానికి చెందిన  మహాకవి, ఆధునిక యుగకర్త,  సంఘసంస్కర్త  శ్రీగురజాడఅప్పారావు పేరు మీదుగా కళాశాల పేరు "శ్రీగురజాడ అప్పారావు ప్రభుత్వ డిగ్రీ కళాశాల" గా  గుర్తించబడింది. ఇది కళాశాల తెలుగు విభాగంకు లభించిన గౌరవం.  ఈ గౌరవాన్ని నిలబెడుతూ తెలుగు విభాగం  తన సాహిత్య, భాషా, సాంస్కృతిక బోధనల ద్వారా విద్యార్థులను మంచి పౌరులుగా తీర్చి దిద్దే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తుంది. ఈ ప్రాంతీయుల మాతృభాష తెలుగు భాష కావడం వలన,  ఈ భాషా   సాహిత్య సాంస్కృతిక వారసత్వాన్ని గౌరవించే, పెంపొందించే,  భావితరాలకు అందించే కృషి తెలుగు విభాగం చేస్తుంది. ఇందు కోసం  తెలుగు విభాగం  విద్యార్థులకు వ్యాస రచన, వక్తృత్వము,  విద్యార్థుల తరగతి సదస్సులు, బృందచర్చలు, క్విజ్, పద్యపఠనం, పద్యగానం వంటి కార్యక్రమాలను నిర్వహిస్తూ విద్యార్థులను వాటిలో భాగస్వాములను చేస్తుంది. అంతే గాక  వినడం, మాట్లాడడం, చదవడం, వ్రాయడం (L,S,R,W Skills) వంటి వాటిలో నైపుణ్యాలను పెంచే చర్యలు చేపడుతోంది. ఈ అంశాలపై పోటీలు పెట్టి విద్యార్థులలో సృజనాత్మక శక్తిని వెలికితీస్తుంది. దీనితో పాటు ప్రఖ్యాత వ్యక్తుల జయంతులు- వర్థంతులు, స్ఫూర్తిదాయక వ్యక్తులను గురించిన ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమాలను నిర్వహిస్తుంది.

The Telugu department was one of the established departments of the Government Degree College - Elamanchili, which was established in 1987. Subsequently, the name of the college was recognized as "Sri Gurajada Apparao Government Degree College" after the great poet, modernist and social reformer of Telugu literature. This is an honor given to the Telugu department of the college. Upholding this honor, the Telugu department strives to make students good citizens through its literary, linguistic and cultural teachings. As Telugu language is the mother tongue of these regions, the Telugu department works to respect, nurture and pass on the literary and cultural heritage of this language to future generations. For this, the Telugu department organizes programs for the students like essay writing, public speaking, student class meetings, group discussions, quiz, poetry reading, poetry singing and involves the students in them. Besides, measures are being taken to increase skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing (L, S, R, W Skills). Competitions on these topics bring out creativity in students. Apart from this, it organizes special programs on the births and anniversaries of famous people and inspirational people.
