3. History of the Department 

The Department of Botany was established in September 1997 with 2 sanctioned posts and offering B.Sc (CBZ) course in Telugu Medium. Later, the Department is also allowed to admit English medium students. The Department is provided with highly experienced and dedicated teaching staff namely Dr. B. Chandramouli (In-Charge) and Dr. V.Padmaja with Doctoral degree.

Botany is one of the major departments in our college which is committed to the development of academic excellence in teaching. Botany Department has one laboratory, one class room and a botanical garden with some trees, ornamentals, medicinal plants, timber and fruit yielding plants. The Department of Botany provides quality education, awareness on competitive examinations, CET exams and moral education for personality development.

The Botany Department is following the CBCS pattern and the Curriculum is designed by Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. There is more demand for CBZ group and more than 40 students are admitted every year. The girl students are being admitted more in number rather than the boys in every year.

The Botany Department has one big Laboratory for conduction of practical classes. The lab provided with more than 29 Microscopes, which enable to operate individually by the students. There is scope for team work among the students in doing some outdoor experiments in the garden and some Physiological experiments within the laboratory. The students are made experienced with hands on practices by doing section cutting experiments. On the other hand, the lab also has advanced equipment as per the curriculum to do experiments for better comprehension of the students. The outside of the Department is having wide corridor to take up study hours, Assignments and internal examinations. Besides, the Department is also having Drinking water facility as the students come from rural background and take their lunch in the green campus.

For every semester, the students are provided with study material. Guest lectures are being delivered by reputed academicians for difficult and important topics. The department organizes awareness programs on Health and environment, science exhibitions, research and social service activities.  In the weekends, clean and green program, Plantation of new herbs are being taken up by the students along with faculty members to inculcate Environmental awareness. The competitive awareness classes and some important life skills are explained to the students to face the difficulties, which come across in their life and in the society and finally make them to acquire all round development.
